During the industrialization era of the 19t^h century, Pilsen became home to two well-known industrial giants – the Škoda Machine Works and the famous Pilsner Urquell Brewery. You can also visit ZOO and Botanical Garden and Dinopark in the city. There are also abundant recreational opportunities in Pilsen. This is because the city is surrounded by numerous forests and lakes and ponds.

Tourist attractions in the town and surrounding areas

• Great Synagogue – This is the second largest synagogue in Europe and the third largest in the world, after those in Jerusalem and Budapest.
• Brewery Museum and the Na Spilce Restaurant – Beer has been a big part of life in Pilsen, practically from the founding of the city. Pilsner Urquell is the oldest and the original pilsner beer. Na Spilce – the largest beer pub in the Czech Republic – is located directly on the grounds of the Pilsner Urquell brewery. The restaurant can seat 580.
• Meditation Garden – The life‘s work of the 1950‘s political prisoner Mr. Luboš Hruška. Over a period of 40 years, this site was transformed into a one-of-a-kind park with hundreds of rare conifers and a monumental Stations of the Cross – the work of the famous sculptor R. Podrázský.
