Tourist Attractions
Riesa has long since changed its image as a former steel city from the GDR era. Today, the municipality is a sports city offering a wide array of cultural events with numerous beautiful points of interest worth seeing. The monastery, the zoo and the holiday island of Riesa are just a few examples of fun things to see and do when visiting Riesa. The city also boasts a gallery and city museum. The Riesa Dance Weeks, the new Elbe Philharmonic Saxony, the local specialty of transparent noodles, the Noodle Museum and cooking studio are some of the more charming attractions the city has to offer. The monastery church of St. Mary was founded in 1261. Particularly impressive is the medieval crypt in which approx. 50 people were found mummified, the oldest dating back to 1636.
