The River Kapos is located in the middle of Somogy County, surrounded by the quiet hills of Zselic. Several settlements were established in its valley over the course of time, and Kaposvár has become the largest of them. It has been a city of county rights since 1990. From the south, the city is surrounded by seven hills with thermal and medical springs on the sides. Naturalists are happy to walk in the woods of a nature protection area near Kaposvár. A long lake has been established by damming the Brook Deseda, thus increasing the varied nature of the landscape. The artificial Deseda Lake is the largest and richest in fish. It is a locally protected natural area. Hungarian and foreign hunters love visiting the woods in the Zselic region because of its rich game. Hunters’ lodges in the woods around the city offer excellent possibilities for hunters of large game or of pheasant. The Kaposvár ‘Csiky Gergely’ Theatre is one of the area’s popular cultural venues. The first Kaposvár Spring Festival was organized in 1992.
