Pskov is an ancient city, the earliest mention of which comes from 903. Pskov is located in the northwest part of Russia at the river Velikaya. Its population is 203,974 people as of January 1, 2012.

• The most remarkable parts of the architectural heritage of Pskov are the ancient churches, which include:
• Trinity Cathedral, founded in 1138 and rebuilt in the 1690s. The cathedral contains the tombs of saint princes Vsevolod (died in 1138) and Dovmont (died in 1299).
• Mirozhsky Monastery (completed by 1152), famous for its 12th-century frescoes.
